THE SHOTLIST

Alright — let’s get nitty gritty.

I see this unfolding in 5 shots total, each with a clear internal beat.

The Porch Shot

We open on the static shot of a rocking chair. As we take in the soft, out-of-focus ranch view, a boot enters frame — kicking dust from a hard day’s work off his leathers.

He sits. A deep exhale.

Just as we think he’s settling in, he pulls out the Spurs and straps them on. A misdirect.

He stands back up — is he going back to work?

SLAM CUT TO:

The Fridge Shot

Interior kitchen — Vintage fridge in the corner.

The same boots and spurs step over the camera and into the frame. He walks toward the fridge. A slight push in as he opens it.

Fridge Staples, normal contents...

Except for a full shelf dedicated to his favourite beer.

Though they’re identical Banquet bottles, he pauses to pick the one that looks the tastiest.

He exits frame left… Beer AND a Spur?

CUT TO:

The Couch Shot

TV flicker lights the room.

He enters and sits on a vintage couche beside another pair of legs in their own boots — a slightly more decorative design. His girlfriend — and perhaps more importantly in this moment, his Yellowstone viewing partner.

He still holds the beer; it dangles as he sits down on the couch.

Just when we think he’ll reach for a bottle opener — he slings his left leg over his thigh.

CUT ON ACTION TO:

The Spur Shot

Top down.

We go after your reference as closely as possible.

In super slow motion, his leg lands on his thigh. We finally see the Spurs in full detail.

We clock that the shape is a little different... A hand enters with the bottle. The cap slides into the Spur.

Right as we understand what’s about to happen —

POP!

A perfectly appetizing spray. The bottle is sideways, giving us a pristine view of the label.

Epic. Cinematic.

And — wait. Is the bottle sideways?

As the spray ends, we ramp back to real time. A quarter of the beer spills before he quickly catches it upright.

CUT TO:

The Couch Shot (Again)

Same framing, both pairs of boots visible.

We catch the tail end of the spill hitting the floor.

He lifts the beer out of frame to take a sip.

His girlfriend shifts slightly — we can’t see her face, but we feel the stare. The kind Beth would give.

“What?!” he says. A beat.

“You’re cleaning that up.”

He shrugs, takes another sip.

The familiar opening theme begins to play.

CUT TO:

End Card Frame

We rattle through the different shoe and pant combinations.

Match cuts anchored by the shape of the circular spur button — allowing fast flip-book cutting without feeling chaotic.

A clean end card housing our CTA to check out the Spurs and see what this is all about.

END.

*** While we don’t have a storyboard artist, the minute we get into a location, I will photoboard this out so you can get a sense of the visuals. I really, really like the reference images you guys use in the brief. I want to try and do justice to those as much as possible!
