Just wanted to make a small note here in relation to working with younger talent!
Working with kids, actors and non-actors alike, is something that brings me immense joy. I spent 3 years in a touring theatre group before the age of 13, with classical and contemporary training during both stints. While I have long retired from acting, that experience and the directors I worked with formed the basis of my approach that I continue to use to this day.
My first formal foray into “directing” was coaching a junior team for competitive improv, my younger brother’s team. I had the pleasure of coaching them to national finals where they performed on stage at the National Arts Centre.
My approach of play and making acting an exploratory process informs and works in tandem with my theory-driven Judith Weston training to have a directing style that has always worked well with younger talent.
Not to pad my stats more, but I was also the lead instructor at a skimboarding summer camp for 5 years, and I am the oldest of 13 grandkids.
