POOL / KITCHEN COMBO
4161 Sunset Blvd
This is a boutique hotel, PNW meets Palm Springs, mid-century DREAM pool that, with our selected art direction, is flat out the best-looking pool we are gonna get for our liking. It’s large, interestingly shaped, can be framed in a way that feels big, and truly gives that hotel vibe. The outdoor space and deck are just asking for those styled repeated chairs, perhaps a mini bar, and some upscale accouterments.
The best part about this, though, is we can turn right around and have three distinct locations inside for our KD product and pack shots. What I love about mid-century houses is that, while the outdoor and common spaces are impeccable, open, and bright— most kitchens weren’t used all that much! So they remain small, refined, and not excessive.
This spot also has a great little dining area for a separate room, and a downstairs modest garden suite (which has it’s own level onto a completely different back patio and yard section) to give one of our younger talent a “bowl of KD on the couch and coffee table” option.
I want to move on this one as quickly as possible to get approval to book it.

CONSTRUCTION
Burnaby Jobsite
Well— I gotta say, this one worried me a little bit in terms of what we were going to be able to have access to...
I have been humbly proven wrong.
The sweeping 200-foot lots and upward-sloping elevation of Burnaby has netted a residential lot that looks like the beginning of most low-rise apartments in Vancouver. A couple of absolute bonuses for us are:
They are beginning framing of the house next week, which means much more wood, rising height in our background, and piles of materials all around.
They have agreed to leave their in-use materials on the site for art direction.
Oh, and yeah— THEY HAVE A YELLOW EXCAVATOR ON SITE.
Couldn’t have dreamed it up better; it’s a perfect spot for the depth, scale, and texture we need.
PARK
EastVan Playground
While these previous two locations require the two in combination to get the other, I will say now that the park is the one we have the most flexibility on.
That being said, there are a couple of reasons this is a winner to me.
We are a short company move away from the construction site, allowing us ample time to shoot, not get on a highway, and get between spots efficiently.
There is also a healthy tree cover which avoids us shooting harsh sunlight that will look bad bad bad on camera. This park has a perfect covered pocket which should keep our jogger and key parts of our playground triggers in the shade so we can shape the light with what we want to bring in.
We can also really clean this up with production design, bring in our own playground elements or greenery, and spruce it all up as we see fit.
