I am excited to shoot our American world on location.
We are going to find some amazing homes and backyard pools here in Vancouver (a city famous for playing many different cities) that inspire that aspirational, high-end feel.
I think leaning into a bit of a Pacific Northwest aesthetic even sets us up for a stronger transition into our Italian world...
But that leads us to our key creative problem.
How do we shoot Italy without actually going there?
In my mind, there are lots of places that come close—cities with European architecture, beaches with similar waters... But think with me for a moment about what that perfect spot in Italy looks like.
For me, I think back to the first time I went there— Venice, for the Biennale...
I can conjure that feeling instantly. The perfect light against the canal. The movement of a gondola as it passes through my view. The perfect plate of cicchetti in front of me, swirling that unforgettable Italian orange drink, leaning against the wall of the wine bar called Vino Verde.
In my mind, it's perfect—but in reality, it will never be as perfect as the memory I have of it.
Nothing will be.
